On Saturday, October 4, 2025, the John Howard Society of Southeastern New Brunswick hosted its very first Ride for Refuge, a day filled with community, purpose, and hope. Riders, walkers, volunteers, and supporters came together to make a positive difference in the lives of people who are vulnerable and seeking hope, safety, and freedom.

Thanks to the hard work of our participants and Team Captains, the event raised over $7,500, with 50 participants and 15 volunteers helping to make the day a success. Special recognition goes to the Lead Team and Team Captains, whose energy and leadership inspired everyone and kept the momentum strong from start to finish.

In her remarks, Board Chair Jenn Fredericks shared, “Today, we ride and walk with purpose. Together, we’re helping to create a community where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity, safety, and hope.” She added that the funds raised will directly support John Howard Society of SENB programs.

Held at Mill Creek Nature Park in the Town of Riverview, the event featured walk options of 2.5 km and 5 km and bike routes of 10 km and 20 km, with supported rest stops and celebration snacks at the finish line. Fundraisers who raised over $150 (or $75 for youth) earned the limited-edition 2025 RIDE t-shirt, proudly showing their commitment to the cause.

Speaking at the event, Executive Director Jo-Anne Brine stated, “The Ride for Refuge isn’t just about cycling or walking. It’s about standing alongside people in our community who are vulnerable, hurting, or at risk of being left behind.”

The event would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors and partners, including RBC Royal Bank, Admiral Security, Carter’s Septic, Moments by Cassandra Photography, Tim Hortons, Sobeys, and the Town of Riverview, who provided support, goods, volunteers, and a beautiful venue to host this first-ever event.

Every step and every pedal stroke helped raise funds to support housing, outreach, and hope for those who need it most in our community.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated, volunteered, donated, or cheered on our riders. Together, we made our first Ride for Refuge a day to remember, showing the incredible impact our community can achieve when we come together.
