The John Howard Society of Southeastern New Brunswick Highlights Community Impact and Growth at 2024 Annual General Meeting
Moncton, NB —30/10/24
The John Howard Society of Southeastern New Brunswick (JHS SENB) recently hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM), bringing together community members, partners, and supporters to reflect on a year marked by significant impact, and a vision for future growth. The event celebrated the organization’s achievements, acknowledged challenges, honored outstanding contributions, and fostered collaboration toward future goals.
Attendees gained key insights into leadership and community impact as the JHS SENB Executive Director presented updates on current projects and outlined strategic initiatives.
“We have seen massive growth, both in the number of individuals and programs we support and in the expansion of our services’’ said Dan Brooks; Executive Director of JHS SENB. This year has not been without its challenges—some of our work was particularly difficult, where we had to be quick and ready to act. “Yet, through it all, the resilience and commitment of our team were unwavering. Together, we supported each other, stood strong, and redefined what we are truly capable of as an organization”, he added.
The event emphasized JHS SENB’s vision for the future, reinforcing a dedication to continuous community involvement and effective programs and services. Over the past year, JHS SENB has expanded its reach and support for vulnerable populations, achieving tangible results in housing, justice, youth, employment, outreach, and community engagement.
“Our presence in the Moncton area has expanded significantly in recent years, evolving from a focus solely on supporting individuals exiting correctional institutions to addressing broader community challenges, particularly homelessness”, said Mike Bourgeois, Board Chairman of JHS SENB. “The John Howard Society’s commitment to reducing recidivism is linked to our efforts to tackle homelessness, as finding stable housing is crucial to preventing crime and fostering community safety”.
This year’s AGM featured prominent guest speakers, including Alan Cross, Creator of The Ongoing History of New Music, who delivered an inspiring keynote address, and Canadian Idol winner Brian Melo, who brought the event to a close with powerful reflections on the future of JHS SENB and a musical performance. Melo’s closing remarks encouraged attendees to continue striving for excellence in support of JHS SENB’s mission.
The event was also an occasion to recognize outstanding achievements, with awards and honors presented to staff and volunteers who made significant contributions throughout the year.
With a year of achievements that touched thousands of lives, JHS SENB is set to continue expanding its programs and community collaborations in the year ahead.
