Moncton, NB – October 23, 2025

The John Howard Society of Southeastern New Brunswick (JHS SENB) held its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on October 23, bringing together community members, partners, funders, and supporters to reflect on a year marked by growth, collaboration, and community impact.

The event celebrated key achievements, recognized challenges, and honoured the outstanding contributions of staff, volunteers, and community partners who made a difference throughout the year.

Outgoing Executive Director Dan Brooks reflected on his tenure, stating,

“These past four years at the John Howard Society have been a time of immense growth, resilience, and service. We stepped into new spaces and carried more responsibility for our community, whether through the Community Hub on Joyce, the creation of affordable housing units, youth programming, or the expansion of our shelter network. Each of these steps was about meeting people where they are and responding to their needs.”

Board Chair Jenn Fredericks spoke about the organization’s evolving mission:

“As our community changes, so does our mission. What began as a focus on helping individuals reintegrate after incarceration has evolved into a broader commitment to addressing the interconnected challenges of housing, homelessness, and stability. We understand that a safe place to call home is more than a basic need; it’s the foundation for hope, safety, and community.”

She added that initiatives such as the housing projects on Flanders Court and Joyce Avenue, shelters like Monarch Landing on Mark Avenue and Bridge to Home on St. George Street, and the two new housing developments on West Main and Lewisville “stand as powerful examples of what collaboration and compassion can achieve. These programs don’t just provide a roof, they create stability, connection, and hope, essential steps in helping individuals rebuild their lives.”

Current Executive Director Jo-Ann Brine emphasized the organization’s vision for the future, stating that “As we look ahead, our focus is on building on this momentum. We’ll continue to strengthen our programs, deepen partnerships, and ensure our work reflects the evolving needs of our community. The challenges we face are real, but so is the determination, creativity, and compassion that define our team.” JHS has always been about people, meeting them where they are, supporting them with dignity, and helping them find opportunity and hope. I’m proud to continue that work alongside such a dedicated staff, board of directors, and network of partners.”

This year’s AGM highlighted client success stories and recognized staff and volunteers for their dedication and exceptional contributions.
